The town centre of Vejer, mainly comprising the old part of town, is small enough to be convenient for shops, pharmacies, bars, restaurants, a language school and many things of historical interest. It may take a few days to get used to the labyrinth of streets but soon it is a pleasure to saunter along the narrow,  cobbled streets,  to sense  the Arabic past and to smell the fresh-baked bread of the nearby baker's shop mixed with the smell of coffee of the numerous bars.
The local people live on agriculture, bull breeding and in the last few years increasingly on tourism. Numerous monuments, witnesses from the lively past of the town, and the fiestas distributed over the whole year reflect the Andalusian joy of life.
